The Ruler of Kastropyrgos

Assistant Set Designer to Architect/Set Designer Thalia Melissa
Based on the epic novel by Karagatsis, the play follows 40 years of the main hero’s life during the Greek national revolution of 1821. Historical figures mix up with fictional characters, composing a fairytale immersed in traditions. The set has to follow seasonal and spatial changes (from the Greek nature to an Ottoman luxury hall). A huge hill made out of a mix of plastic and real plants stands in the middle and hosts numerous outdoor scenes. Internal scenes are depicted by individual pieces of furniture, making the hill seem like a backdrop seen through an imaginary window. The hill changes shape and vibe thanks to the smoke and lights. Directed by Dimitris Tarlow and adapted by Thanasis Triaridis.
