Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice Opera
Stage Co-Director & Visual Artist | Amsterdam 2023
Music by Christoph Willibald Gluck 1762, Libretto Ranieri de’ Calzabigi, Opera in 3 Acts, a shortened Vienna version
Gluck is a late-baroque composer from the XVIII° century. His version of the myth of Orfeo is an essential element in the operatic repertoire. The music is magnificent, varied, and full of colors, contrasts, archetypal scenes, and sentiments like trust, love, desire, and grief. The multiple leading roles for female voices gave female singers more opportunities to perform on stage.
What about the staging?
Together with the soprano Iris Keller, we relied on the minimum elements available for this staging. Lights, shadows, and various reactions compose an imaginary scenery out of time and space for this famous myth, centered around the theme of the look, the gaze, and mutual trust.
